Should be pro review: double layer tea makes it one of the best Wear OS watches

New should Pro from a Chinese company Mobvoi want to shake the smartwatch scene with a special double-layer display: flips between standard Wear operating system, the plate energy saving tea to use when idle. New Atlas spent the week previous and that’s what we think so far.

Ticwatch Pro review: Dual layer screen makes for one of the best Wear OS watches

The star of the show really is that the double-layer screen – standard, 1.39-inch, 400 × 400 OLED display, overlaid with a so-called FSTN (film compensated super twisted isotropic to a string) of the screen. The second monochrome liquid crystal display panel when the clock is not actively in use display time, date, your current step count.

Why all this technology service? Battery life. Mobvoi says is necessary to put the (LCD display mode) can last 30 days between charges, while we can’t test it for a long time, seems to be a fair estimate – we definitely noticed it kick in once or twice when the battery level no longer supports the Smart Mode (OLED) display. This means that you will always be able to tell the time even if you can’t download Google Maps.

Even with relatively heavy use, it should Pro is the powerful performance in terms of battery life. We found there was always plenty of juice left after day one of the switch between the intelligent core and usually a little remaining at the end of the second day also. On a smartwatch running Google’s Wear OS, this is very competitive indeed.

There is another benefit to the second screen, though: always enjoy seeing the time at a glance, without putting the movement of the wrist to wake up the display. That was one of the biggest disappointments with smart watches so far, should be a Pro to fit it. Other Wear OS devices have dimmed “always on” mode but it is not easy to read as it should be pro and hit on the battery life of the biggest.

As far as looks there is no doubt the former impresses in this section. The cover of the buttons may be plastic (choose from black or silver), but they have a solid quality feel, comfortable strap on the wrist and easy on the eye – if it is mostly silicone with a leather finish on the outside, so it is suitable for both a morning run and evening dinner party. Full skin full silicone ones are also available.

Aside from this dual display, Mobvoi didn’t do anything too special with the design, but it works. 45 mm size of the Watch may be too large for some (the larger Apple Watch tops out at 42 mm) but there is not a lot of other flaws to talk about.

Full credit should be pro for stuffing a whole load of technology here. There is a heart rate monitor, on-board NFC (mobile payments), and even GPS included – not something you will find in many of the smart watches out there. It means that you can track your location and get directions even without connect the phone, and in choosing the Watch got a GPS lock and kept it very well (not always a given with devices of this size).

On the software side, Wear operating system is more or less the same as it was over a year ago now, with a lot of apps to choose from Google Assistant should you need it – should be pro has a speaker, so the Assistant can speak to you if you wish. That Speaker also helps to receive calls on your wrist, of course.

Mobvoi has bundled a bunch of exclusive watch faces with the Pro that we found well designed and useful and fitness custom application – we prefer to use Google Fit, I found Mobvoi alternative a bit confusing, but it’s there if you need it.

Generally, we have found should be pro a pleasure to use. Wear operating system is more or less the same on both the Wear OS watch, but aside from dual-layer screen, this wearable device is comfortable to wear, looks good on the wrist, and responsive in use. There are a surprising number of smartwatch makers don’t get those basics right.

We have some of the drawbacks to talk about. Internal components is the same here as they were in the Google-powered watches for a few years now – this is not Mobvoi error, but don’t expect lightning-fast responses in the applications or significantly upgrade the speed on the Wear OS smartwatch you have purchased in 2016. Can be worn new chips apparently on the way, but too late for should Pro.

At the same time, that the second LCD layer on the screen does not give a very slight blur of the OLED panel underneath, and adds another half a second or so in response times when you raise your wrist to get into smart mode. It seems a little basic and cheap, but this is the result of what he’s trying to do. Is the battery saver core the situation is worth the trade? We can say yes, but your mileage may vary.

Even with the internal components of the long-awaited upgrade, Mobvoi produced a really impressive Wear OS smartwatch with should be a pro one shoots straight into the top few that you should consider if you purchase today. At the end of the test period, we were more than happy to carry on using it, which is a testament to its quality.

The should be pro managed to hit a decent price point. You can pick it up now for US$249.99 from Amazon, although now should be the chairman of the joint purchase. This tradition lifts on August 15, as of September, the smartwatch will be available from other retailers also.
